Profile
Erica Knott represents a variety of public and private entities in tax, general corporate and commercial matters. She was admitted to the U.S. Tax Court in 2010.
Before joining Parker Poe, Ms. Knott served as a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at the Washington and Lee University School of Law and the Interim Director of its Low Income Taxpayer Clinic.
While at Washington and Lee University School of Law, Ms. Knott was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice.
In 2008, Ms. Knott studied abroad in Suzhou, China with Cornell University School of Law in its program focusing on International Business Transactions.
Experience Highlights
- Tax matters, including advice on the U.S. tax implications of cross-border transactions, the applicability of state income, sales, use, franchise, and property tax, and controversy matters, including examinations, appeals, and collections
- General corporate and commercial matters, including entity formation and dissolution
- Commercial contracts, including terms and conditions of sale and purchase, service agreements and distributorship agreements
- Negotiated transactions, including stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, mergers and other similar transactions for public and privately-owned companies
- Economic development incentive agreements, including state and local tax and economic incentives analysis for both business relocation and retention, with state and local governments and other project stakeholders
- Estate planning matters, including updating and implementing clients’ estate plans
