Profile
Chip Ford has 18 years of experience representing creditors in all aspects of commercial debt collection and loss mitigation, including loan restructuring, bankruptcy and litigation to enforce remedies such as foreclosure and receivership. His clients include major national and regional banks, CMBS special servicers and purchasers of distressed debt.
Mr. Ford also advises and represents clients from a wide range of industries on all aspects of the bankruptcy process, including the purchase and sale of assets under Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code, Chapter 11 plan confirmation, the assumption and rejection of contracts and the defense of preference and fraudulent transfer claims.
Mr. Ford serves as the Practice Leader for Parker Poe’s Creditors’ Rights & Financial Restructuring Group.
Experience Highlights
- Represented a national CMBS special servicer in the resolution of more than $100 million in distressed loans secured by hotels, retail centers, industrial facilities and apartment projects in North Carolina
- Represented national and regional banks in the resolution of hundreds of millions of dollars in distressed commercial mortgages and other loans
- Served as lead counsel to a major national automotive retail chain in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of General Motors and Chrysler
- Served as lead counsel to a major national utility service provider in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Lehman Brothers
- Handled the defense of over 25 bankruptcy preference cases involving total claims in excess of $10 million – clients paid an average of only 5% of the amount claimed
