Kristen M. Baylis
Associate
Kristen Baylis concentrates her practice in employment and labor litigation and counseling, as well as restrictive covenant and trade secret litigation.
Prior to joining Parker Poe, Ms. Baylis served as a law clerk to to the Honorable Patrick Michael Duffy, United States District Court, Charleston Division.
While at the University of South Carolina, Ms. Baylis was the production editor of the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal.
Experience Highlights
Ms. Baylis advises and represents clients in the following areas:
- EEOC proceedings, and litigation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disability Act
- Issues arising under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act, the South Carolina Wage and Hour Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act
- Wrongful discharge, retaliation, breach of contract, breach of covenants not to compete and other claims arising out of the employment relationship
- Prosecution and defense of restrictive covenant and trade secret misappropriation claims
- Class action defense
- Human resources management training and counseling on various employer policies
- Preparation and revision of employee handbooks and employment policies
- Specific personnel actions such as hiring, performance evaluations, discipline and termination
