(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)—Kevin Chapman, an attorney in the Charlotte office of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, has been named the Vice-Chair of the Arts & Science Council’s (ASC) Young Donor Society Steering Committee. Mr. Chapman will serve as the Vice-Chair until 2012 and then succeed as Chairman of the committee from 2012-2013.
“Kevin brings both passion and professionalism to his role as the Vice Chair of ASC’s Young Donor Society,” said Catherine Miller, Senior Development Officer of ASC. “It is obvious that he values the importance of a strong cultural sector, and through his leadership, has been able to inspire colleagues and friends to also become involved in shaping this vibrant sector. His combination of fastidious attention to detail, and enthusiasm for the arts truly makes him the ideal volunteer for our organization.”
The Young Donor Society (YDS) Steering Committee consists of more than 20 individuals from businesses and organizations throughout Charlotte. The committee works to promote the area’s many cultural components offered to the Charlotte community and beyond.
Additionally, the committee is responsible for efforts related to growing the YDS membership base and ensuring that current members continue their support of the ASC. Committee officers and members are also tasked with developing volunteer and outreach-related programming designed to broaden the influence of the YDS throughout Mecklenburg County.
Mr. Chapman is a 2010 graduate of the ASC’s Cultural Leadership Training program. Program participants are selected through a highly competitive application process and complete a nine-month, hands-on training program that coaches emerging leaders on the depth of program offerings in the cultural community and educates about key roles, responsibilities and challenges of board members. After completing the program, participants transfer their leadership skills and business savvy to serve on boards of non-profit cultural organizations in Mecklenburg County. He currently serves as Treasurer on the board of Theatre Charlotte.
Mr. Chapman is a member of the Business Law Department at Parker Poe. He regularly advises clients and in-house counsel on the legal aspects of business transactions, operations and economic development.
