April 19, 2012
(RALEIGH, N.C.)—Sarah Ford, an attorney with Parker Poe’s Employment & Benefits Practice Group in the Firm’s Raleigh office, has been selected to the Triangle Business Journal’s 2012 “40 Under 40” list of outstanding and rising young business leaders in the region.
The winners will be honored at an awards luncheon May 17 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary and profiled in a special section of the publication’s May 18 print edition.
Ms. Ford has been with Parker Poe since 2003 and provides employment litigation and counsel to employers on a wide range of issues such as sexual harassment, racial discrimination and accommodation of disabilities. Her clients include multinational corporations, government agencies, hospitals and medical practices.
Ms. Ford is a founding member of the Firm’s Diversity Committee, where she has facilitated discussions about retaining minority and female attorneys and generally raised the profile of diversity issues among the Parker Poe attorneys and leaders. Since 2008, she has been a part of Parker Poe’s “Life as a Lawyer” program for minority law students and conducted mock interviews to prepare them for entering the legal field. She also mentors young women attorneys and organizes networking and other internal events to improve camaraderie and a sense of community among her colleagues.
Outside of Parker Poe, Ms. Ford is pro bono employment counsel to the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina, a care provider for those living with HIV and AIDS; SouthLight, Inc., which offers substance abuse treatment for teens and adults; and SECU Family House, a residential facility for families of patients being treated at UNC Hospitals. She is also a highly regarded leader in the equality movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents of North Carolina, serving on the executive committees of the boards of directors of Equality North Carolina, a statewide advocacy organization, and the Equality North Carolina Foundation.
“Sarah’s promise is limited only by her decision as to where to focus her talent and energy. It is unmistakably clear to all who know her that she can accomplish anything she chooses,” wrote Melanie Black Dubis, a partner in Parker Poe's Raleigh office, in her nomination of Ms. Ford for the 40 Under 40 honor.“ Sarah will continue to devote herself not only to her clients and family, but to people in need and to the cause of justice.”
