Free seminar tackles topics from appearance discrimination to employing foreign workers and managing overtime

The law firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP will host an employment seminar entitled “New Requirements, Risks & Strategies for Hospitality Industry Employers” on Thursday, June 2nd in Charlotte. The seminar will provide employers with information on a variety of legal matters such as the emerging area of appearance--based discrimination, benefits issues for part-time employees and workplace investigations.

“As the high tourism season approaches, hospitality industry employers face a number of challenges in managing today’s changing workforce,” said Keith Weddington, Partner and Employment Practice Group leader for Parker Poe. “We feel that the more knowledge employers have about local, state and federal employment laws, the better positioned they will be both to avoid costly mistakes and to enhance employee morale and retention.”

The program, which has been approved for 3.5 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the HCRI, will focus on the following topics:

  • Recent Developments & Compliance Strategies in the Employment of Foreign Workers
  • How to Legally Control & Manage Overtime
  • Emerging Area of Appearance/Image-Based Discrimination
  • The Who, What, Where, When, Why & How of Properly Conducting Workplace Investigations
