Two From Parker Poe Elected as Mayors

(Raleigh) — The Parker Poe Raleigh office has added another Mayor.  Russell Killen was elected last night as Mayor of Knightdale.  He joins Mayor of Raleigh Charles Meeker who was re-elected to his fourth two-year term on Oct. 9.

“Mayors Meeker and Killen are devoted to their communities and to the quality of life in Wake County,” said Henry Campen, managing partner in the Raleigh office.  “Our partners are proud of the commitment Charles and Russell have demonstrated to public service.  Commitment to community is a core value of our firm.”

Mayor Meeker is a partner in the regulatory department representing local governments in tax cases and business clients in commercial litigation.  He is listed in Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America in administrative law.  Meeker was first elected as Mayor of Raleigh in November 2001 and served the Raleigh City Council in 1985-1989 and 1991-1995.  He earned his juris doctorate from Columbia University and his bachelor’s degree from Yale University.  As Mayor, Charles Meeker has led the renaissance of downtown Raleigh.
 
Mayor Killen is a partner in the litigation department representing clients in the areas of construction and  contract negotiation He is listed in Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America in construction law; Business North Carolina magazine’s Legal Elite in construction, and Triangle Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.  Killen, who grew up in Knightdale, has used his knowledge of construction law to advise the county on ways to improve the construction of schools and county facilities as part of the Citizen’s Facilities Advisory Committee.  He also serves on the board of directors and executive committee of Wake Education Partnership.  Killen’s juris doctorate is from Duke University and his bachelor’s degree is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
