(RALEIGH, N.C.) – William G. Pappas, a Partner in Parker Poe’s Raleigh office, participated on a panel sponsored by the UNC Board Diversity Program, focusing on minority involvement on corporate boards.

Mr. Pappas joined Lissa Broome, a chaired Professor at UNC School of Law and head of the Director Diversity Initiative, and other distinguished panelists, on an annual program panel addressing diversity on U.S. corporate boards, especially public and private for profit boards. The panel addressed topics including, how to increase the number of women and minorities serving on boards, approaches to advancing candidacy for a board director position and diverse directors in non-diverse settings.

The objective of the Director Diversity Initiative at UNC School of Law is to encourage boards of directors of public companies to increase their gender, racial and ethnic diversity. The initiative periodically collects and publishes information about the diversity of the 50 largest public companies headquartered in North Carolina.

Mr. Pappas’ participation in the panel is an example of Parker Poe’s commitment to diversity in the legal community. The Firm established a Diversity Committee in 2006, which is charged with developing, monitoring and evaluating Parker Poe’s initiatives and progress in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and creating a firmwide atmosphere of inclusiveness.

Mr. Pappas is a member of Parker Poe’s board of directors and provides general counsel and corporate and governance counsel to national and international clients. He also serves on the board of directors of Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company, the Research Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors, and is on the board of advisors for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
