(RALEIGH, N.C.) – The North Carolina Symphony boards of directors presented outgoing board chair Catharine Biggs Arrowood, a Partner in Parker Poe’s Raleigh office, with the first-ever “North Carolina Symphony’s Directors Award of Excellence.” The Executive Committee of the Symphony established the award to recognize ongoing and extraordinary service to the organization. Ms. Arrowood has served as a trustee of the Symphony for 11 years, including three years as board chair.
In presenting the award, newly appointed board chair Jeff Corbett and trustee Doug Hornberger said, “To Catharine Arrowood, who has guided this institution so ably since 2010 as the chair of our board. Your leadership and engagement in all matters related to the North Carolina Symphony since you joined the board in 2003 has made us a stronger institution and we thank you.”
A member of Parker Poe’s Antitrust, Business Torts & White Collar Practice Group, Ms. Arrowood litigates and arbitrates for both large and small businesses and has considerable experience with regulated companies. She focuses on resolving problems that threaten the viability of a business. Her clients have included educational institutions, utilities, insurance companies, accounting and law firms, health care and biotech firms, banks and commercial aerospace companies.
In addition to her Symphony board leadership, Ms. Arrowood was recently elected president-elect of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) and will serve as the organization’s president in 2014-2015. She is a past president of the Wake County Bar Association and the 10th Judicial District Bar, and currently chairs the North Carolina State Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers, which named her a Fellow in 2004.
A recipient of numerous awards, Ms. Arrowood’s honors include, the NCBA’s prestigious H. Brent McKnight Renaissance Lawyer Award, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly Women of Justice Award, Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in Antitrust Litigation and Benchmark Litigation’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation.”
She received her JD, cum laude, in 1976 and her BA, cum laude, in 1973 from Wake Forest University.
