(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — William P. Farthing, Jr., a Partner in Parker Poe’s Charlotte office, has been appointed to the North Carolina State Ethics Commission.

The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced that Mr. Farthing (Mecklenburg County) along with Judge Ralph Walker (Wake County) will serve the commission and current member Judge John M. Tyson (Cumberland County) will serve as Chairman on the Commission.

The Commission is responsible for interpreting the State Government Ethics Act and Lobbying Law and shares administration of the Lobbying Law with the Secretary of State's Office. Duties of the commission include establishing ethical standards for certain public officials, state employees, and appointees to nonadvisory state boards and commissions; requiring public disclosure of economic interests by certain persons in the executive, legislative and judicial branches; amending the lobbying laws; and making conforming changes.

Mr. Farthing has practiced law at Parker Poe for more than 39 years. He served as the firm’s Chairman and Managing Partner for 10 years and on the firm’s Board of Directors for more than 20 years. He received a JD, with honors, in 1974, and an AB in 1970 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar.
