(RALEIGH, NC) – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that partner Melanie Dubis has been elected as board chair of the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina, Inc. (AAS-C).

AAS-C is a nonprofit that strives to help people living with HIV/AIDS, their loved ones, caregivers, and communities by focusing on prevention, education, and advocacy. The organization provides assistance such as free HIV testing, referrals to care for newly diagnosed persons, affordable housing, a Food Pantry, and support from the faith community. Dubis has supported AAS-C since 1999, first as pro bono counsel, and then as a board member. The organization's cause is one close to Dubis' heart as she lost her older brother, Jimmy, to AIDS in 1992. Jimmy was 33 years old.

"It is an honor to be involved with the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina," says Dubis. "My brother was fortunate to already have many of the things that the AAS-C provides; however, I appreciate that the organization offers something he didn't always have – non-judgmental, compassionate care. It is in Jimmy's memory that I support the mission of AAS-C and the people it serves."

Dubis, a versatile litigator representing corporate and individual clients in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, insurance, financial services, and technology industries, advises and manages cases for clients in unfair and deceptive trade practices, trade secret litigation, securities litigation, and intellectual property litigation. As an active member of the community, Melanie serves on the Carolina Ballet Board of Directors, the North Carolina State Bar Grievance Committee, the advisory board of Connected Women of North Carolina, and the Education Committee for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

"I'm proud to serve alongside other AAS-C Board members, including Christopher (Matt) Cozzi, Michael Leach, Patrick Lee, and Andrea Breazeale," comments Dubis. "We encourage people to support AAS-C's mission and get involved by volunteering, making a donation to the AAS-C Food Pantry, and/or attending our upcoming fundraiser, HO HO HO BINGO, on December 13 at the Durham Armory," she concludes.
