Attorney Opportunities

Parker Poe has created a lateral attorney recruiting program to address the needs of its growing practice areas and to help implement our expansion plans.  Lateral attorneys hired from areas all over the country now comprise a significant portion of the Parker Poe team.  We offer attractive career opportunities in desirable locations in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Lateral Attorney Integration

Parker Poe is committed to integrating lateral attorneys upon acceptance of an offer.  We offer guidance on professional services from moving companies and real estate agents to doctor and dentist referrals.

We know it is important for the whole family to transition so we schedule specific social and orientation activities during the first several months with the firm.

We practice in communities which welcome new residents.  Laterals are quickly accepted and are presented with civic, charitable and business development opportunities within a short period of time.  The warmth and hospitality indigenous to the Southern cities in which we practice provide an excellent base of support.

Diversity

A strong commitment to creating a diverse work environment is central to Parker Poe's core values and strategic vision.  Parker Poe recognizes that promoting diversity among attorneys and staff is essential to the success of the firm, its lawyers, employees and clients.  The diverse background and experiences of Parker Poe's attorneys and staff enrich our practice of law and our service to our clients.  Parker Poe's Diversity Committee is charged with the responsibility for developing, monitoring and evaluating Parker Poe's initiatives and progress in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and creating a firm-wide atmosphere of inclusiveness.

Orientation, Mentoring and Training

During the first week at Parker Poe, lateral attorneys participate in a formal orientation designed to introduce them to attorneys and staff across the firm and to introduce them to key individuals and departments that will support their practice. Mentoring is a critical component in the integration of new laterals. Therefore, each new lateral is assigned a mentor within his or her practice group, whose role is to help the new lateral integrate within the practice group and the firm. The firm provides lateral attorneys and all attorneys with both formal and informal opportunities for training, including training related to substantive practice areas, practical skills and business development.

Professional Development

Parker Poe is committed to the success of all lawyers. Therefore, the firm embraces the importance of attorney development at all levels of practice. To do this, Parker Poe has an integrated professional development program that focuses on a number of different areas, including attorney staffing on matters to allow a breadth and depth of experience and client contact; level-appropriate work assignments; consistent constructive feedback and performance evaluations; formal and informal mentoring; and in-house and outside training programs.

Employee Characteristics

Parker Poe hires individuals who possess a combination of talents which will enable them to succeed. While academic accomplishments are very important to us, equally important are qualities of personality, motivation, good judgment and character. By basing our hiring decisions on these criteria, we ensure that the firm maintains a friendly work environment while providing our clients with the highest level of service, quality of representation and reliability.
