Sarah Ford assists employers in the areas of compliance counseling, internal investigations, and litigation. She has experience defending employers against the claims of current and former employees as well as charges brought by government agencies. These include the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. and N.C. Departments of Labor.

She has experience handling sensitive employment issues such as claims of sexual harassment, racial bias, and disability discrimination. Her clients include health care entities, schools and universities, financial institutions, and retailers.

Sarah is also a past chair of Parker Poe’s Diversity Committee.

Representative Experience

  • Counseled clients on compliance and litigation concerning all forms of discrimination, including those prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
  • Assisted clients with human resources management training and counseling on various employer policies and “best practices” for supervisors.
  • Advised clients on wrongful discharge, retaliation, breach of contract, breach of covenants not to compete, and other claims arising out of the employment relationship.
  • Counseled clients on business-related immigration and visa law, including non-immigrant and immigrant matters and work authorization and documentation requirements such as the Form I-9 and E-Verify.
  • Assisted on internal investigations of allegations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate workplace behavior.
  • Advised clients on compliance, audit enforcement, and litigation concerning the North Carolina Wage and Hour Act and the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
