The law firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP announced today that the Charlotte Business Journal recognized Jami Jackson Farris among the 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards for 2010. Each year, the weekly business newspaper honors 40 people under the age of 40 for their community and professional achievements.
“Jami works every day to make an impact in our community, and the 40 Under 40 Award is great recognition for her tremendous efforts,” said Michael G. Adams, Partner and Member of Parker Poe’s Board of Directors. “From education-based programs executed under her leadership positions at various organizations to working on pro bono projects to working side-by-side with non-profits, she is dedicated to the city of Charlotte.”
Ms. Farris is a partner in Parker Poe’s Litigation Group, where she advises clients on commercial disputes, construction and intellectual property litigation. She handles cases in state and federal courts and also arbitrates before the American Arbitration Association and the National Arbitration Forum.
A 2006 graduate of the Arts & Science Council Cultural Leadership Training Program, Ms. Farris is on the Board of the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and serves on the Theatre’s Human Resources Sub-committee. In addition, she has been Counsel to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Art Commission since 2003.
A member of Parker Poe’s Pro Bono Committee, Ms. Farris spent more than 325 hours volunteering her time and legal services in the past three years. She provides pro bono legal services through the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program, Legal Aid, and Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont. Ms. Farris has also served on the Mecklenburg County Bar Local Rules Committee, and is a former Lunch with a Lawyer Program Mentor for area middle school students.
Additionally, Ms. Farris is a member of the Parker Poe Charitable Contributions & Community Relations Committee. The Firm’s representative for the UNC Law Annual Fund, she has served as a mentor to UNC Law students.
From 2007-2008, Ms. Farris served as President of the Top of the Week Rotary Club, and from 2008-2009, she served as the club’s Membership Chair. Ms. Farris is also a Past President of Chief Justice William H. Bobbitt American Inn of Court, an organization that promotes excellence in legal advocacy.
In 2009, Ms. Farris was the top vote-getter in the “Best Under 40” category for Business North Carolina magazine’s Legal Elite’s Young Guns. She was also named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Business Litigation as well as a 2009 Top Lawyer in Trial/Litigation in the Charlotte Business Leader.
Ms. Farris is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (BA, 1993) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (JD, with honors, 1999).
