Parker Poe Attorneys Receive Pro Bono Award

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)Jami Jackson Farris and Deborah L. Edney, Partners in the Charlotte office of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, have been honored with the first Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award from Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (LSSP).

The Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award is a lifetime achievement honor recognizing individuals whose long-standing and exceptional dedication to pro bono legal service has made a meaningful impact on access to justice on the community and state level. The award recipients are nominated by a collaborative effort of the directors of the Council for Children’s Rights, Legal Aid of NC and LSSP.

Ms. Farris and Ms. Edney will be presented with the award on September 11th at the first annual Pro Bono Awards event, which will be held at the Charlotte City Club. In response to the recent recognition, Ms. Farris said that she and Ms. Edney hope other Parker Poe attorneys will take advantage of these opportunities in the future and reap the intangible rewards from pro bono work.

Ms. Farris focuses her practice on diverse business disputes. She tries cases and handles appeals for plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts and arbitrates before the American Arbitration Association, the National Arbitration Forum and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. She received her JD, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her BA from the College of William and Mary.

Ms. Edney leads the Firm’s Antitrust, Business Torts & White Collar practice group and works principally with clients in the area of business litigation. Her experience includes managing, trying and arbitrating cases involving trade secret misappropriation, covenants not to compete, tortious interference, breach of fiduciary duty, antitrust claims and unfair competition. She received her JD, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her BA, magna cum laude, from Louisiana Tech University.
