(COLUMBIA, SC)–Sidney J. Evering II, Special Counsel and Parker Poe’s Director of Diversity, has received the Jonathan Jasper Wright Award, given by the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at the University of South Carolina School of Law. The award recognizes an outstanding member of the legal community who facilitates diversity in the workplace and community.
Mr. Evering has volunteered as a mentor for BLSA members and other law students at the University of South Carolina for more than six years. In 2012, he was recruited by the Riley Institute at Furman University as a participant in the Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI), Midlands Class V. Through his involvement with the Riley Institute, Mr. Evering was selected as part of the inaugural membership and steering committee of the Diversity Recruitment Consortium (DRC), a group of organizations that work to develop innovative programs, practices and processes that increase the diversity of professional and executive talent throughout South Carolina.
In 2011, Mr. Evering was named the Firm’s Director of Diversity. In this role, he works closely with Parker Poe’s Diversity Committee and firm leadership to promote and facilitate a working environment of inclusion, respect and opportunity for all employees through education, hiring and recruiting practices and special initiatives.
Mr. Evering earned his BS in 1996 and his JD in 2002 from the University of South Carolina.
