(CHARLOTTE, NC) – Irvin W. Hankins III (“Hank”), a Partner at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, will be appointed Trustee Emeriti for Queens University of Charlotte.

An induction ceremony will be held on May 2 at the Rogers Science Building at the university to honor Mr. Hankins along with eight other former trustees also receiving the esteemed designation.

Being recognized as a Trustee Emeriti enables former board members to continue to be engaged and involved with the institution beyond their formal tenure. Mr. Hankins served on the university’s Board of Trustees from 2004-2012.

“Hank has been a critical part of our leadership circle, and we are delighted to keep him engaged with Queens,” said President Pamela Davies. “As a Board of Trustees member for many years, Hank has helped shape the course of the university during a time of much change and growth, and we are incredibly grateful for his many contributions.”

Mr. Hankins was Parker Poe’s Managing Partner from 1986-2002. Since then, he has served as the firm’s General Counsel.

Mr. Hankins is an American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates member, an ABA Foundation Fellow and a member of the Disciplinary Hearing Commission of the North Carolina State Bar (NCSB). He has served in numerous leadership roles including President of the NCSB from 2007-2008 and a member of the NCSB Council from 1997-2009. He was also a member of the NCSB IOLTA Board of Trustees from 2009-2012, serving as Board Chairman in 2011-2012. Additionally, Mr. Hankins was President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Alumni Association from 2004-2005, and is currently a member of the UNC Board of Visitors. He served as General Counsel to the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce from 2002-2003.

Mr. Hankins has been recognized among The Best Lawyers in America in Commercial Litigation since 2003. He has also been featured in Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” in Litigation and North Carolina Super Lawyers in Utilities, Business Litigation and Professional Liability.
