Amanda Williams defends employers on a range of employment issues involving claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, and wage and hour disputes. When assisting clients in navigating legal issues that touch on both state and federal employment laws, Amanda works closely with her clients to analyze and explain the legal and factual issues arising from each situation and to plan a strategy that helps her clients most efficiently and effectively achieve their goals.

She counsels clients on all aspects of the employment relationship from hiring to discharge and on various legal issues arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII, South Carolina Human Affairs Law, South Carolina Payment of Wages Act, and other state and federal employment laws. Amanda regularly defends employers in litigation matters pending in both state and federal courts, as well as in administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and South Carolina Human Affairs Commission (SHAC).

In addition to her experience handling various employment law issues, Amanda also has experience litigating cases involving professional malpractice and various contractual and tort disputes.

Amanda earned her law degree from Louisiana State University, where she served as senior editor for the Louisiana Law Review and received the W. Lee Hargrave Award for most outstanding service on law review.

Representative Experience

  • Represented employers in administrative proceedings before the Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and South Carolina Human Affairs Commission (SHAC) involving claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on age, race, gender, disability, religion, and national origin.
  • Represented employers in litigation in South Carolina state and federal courts on a range of matters that include claims arising under Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, state wage and hour laws, wrongful discharge in violation of public policy, breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and other state law claims arising out of the employment relationship.
  • Handled transactional employment matters, including preparation of employment contracts, restrictive covenants, employee handbooks and employment policies, and employee separation agreements.
  • Counseled and advised human resources professionals and other corporate executives and managers with respect to individual employee issues, including hiring, discipline, and termination.
  • Conducted employee training on anti-discrimination and anti-harassment issues.
  • Defended claims arising from contractual and business disputes.
  • Represented professionals, including lawyers, insurance agents, appraisers, and accountants, in the defense of professional liability claims.
  • Successfully negotiated a resolution of an FLSA collective action involving multiple store locations and a large class of opt-in plaintiffs.
  • Obtained dismissal of claims of sexual harassment, retaliation, and disability discrimination in a South Carolina federal court matter.
  • Won a defense ruling in an arbitration involving claims of discrimination and retaliation under the ADA.
