Florence Thompson focuses her practice on employment litigation and workplace counseling. She represents companies in a broad range of employment disputes, including claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). She also provides preventive advice and counseling on compliance with state and federal employment laws, as well as workplace policies and procedures.
Florence has experience representing companies in state and federal court litigation, arbitration, and before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), North Carolina Department of Labor, and South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. She has counseled clients on reductions in force and employment law compliance; conducted internal investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations; and prepared employment agreements, severance agreements, and workplace policies and procedures.
Before joining Parker Poe, Florence was an associate at a nationwide employment law firm. She also completed a part-time secondment with one of the world's largest telecommunications companies, where she represented the company in EEOC proceedings and advised on employment best practices.
Florence earned her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law and her bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia.
