Columbia Summer Associate Program

The Summer Associate Program in Columbia is designed to give law students real-world experience as a practicing attorney. Summer associates work on a variety of challenging projects alongside attorneys to meet the complex legal needs of some of the largest businesses and local governments in the Southeast.

The Summer Associate Program in Columbia offers a unique set of benefits for law students. As part of one of the largest law firms based in the Carolinas, summer associates will experience sophisticated legal work and compensation packages competitive with the larger Carolinas’ markets. At the same time, the smaller size of Parker Poe’s Columbia office provides students the chance to build relationships and receive mentoring from a tight-knit team of attorneys who value the person beyond the lawyer.

Summer associates in Columbia get the opportunity to explore a variety of practice areas as they work on projects comparable to those assigned to first and second-year associates. The attorneys in Columbia focus primarily on banking, business litigation, commercial real estate, economic development, health care, and public finance. However, summer associates will also be exposed to the practices across Parker Poe.

The Summer Associate Program in Columbia is intentionally small, hiring only one to two summer associates per 1L class. The goal is to transition summer associates to skilled, dynamic lawyers: 10 of the past 13 summer associates in Columbia have been extended offers of employment. Those offers have included part-time work while in law school and full-time positions afterward.

Below is the recruiting timeline for the 2019 Summer Associate Program in Columbia:
