Pro Bono Awards Given to Three Parker Poe Attorneys

  • May 05, 2008

The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) and Business Leader magazine honored Jay Butler, Charity Falls and Scott Addison each with a 2008 Power of Justice Award. The award is given to attorneys who make an impact in their community through pro bono work.

The Parker Poe attorneys were recently honored at separate ceremonies. Mr. Addison and Ms. Falls were recognized at a luncheon ceremony held in Charlotte on April 28th. Mr. Butler received the award at a luncheon for all Triangle honorees on May 5th.

  • Jay Butler has been active in providing pro bono legal services to clients with cases ranging from consumer fraud to child abuse and neglect. He previously received the North Carolina Bar Association's Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney Service Award (now called the Thorp Award) and is currently Chair of the Pro Bono & Community Service Committee at Parker Poe.
  • Charity Falls works to provide pro bono corporate and tax counsel to nonprofit organizations in the Charlotte region and estate planning services to the indigent through Legal Services for the Elderly.  In addition, she volunteered her time as an estate planning expert at the 2007 Wills for Heroes event as part of the ABA Young Lawyers Division Fall Conference held in Charlotte. She also provides pro bono legal advice to the Lupus Foundation of America, Piedmont Chapter, as a member of its Board of Directors.
  • Scott Addison has been active in the Guardian ad Litem program, the Mecklenburg County Lawyer for a Day program and with Legal Aid of North Carolina. In his most recent pro bono case, Scott successfully represented a client who was in danger of losing her government subsidy.
