Facebook, the popular online social networking website, announced this week that users will be allowed to create personalized URLs for their Facebook pages (facebook.com/yourname), beginning this Saturday, June 13 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
To prevent the unauthorized use of registered trademarks, Facebook has created an online form allowing trademark owners to block Facebook members from using a registered trademark as a username. Please click here to view this form. It is critical that this form is submitted by tomorrow in order to avoid complications in retrieving your trademark after someone else has registered it as a username.
Additionally, you may wish to select your trademark as a Facebook username. Facebook has enacted certain restrictions on such a selection. However, given the widespread use of Facebook and the desirability of gaining a convenient, personalized Facebook URL, businesses should seriously consider utilizing the new "username" function.
Please contact Art DeBaugh, Evan Fultz, Chris Thomas, or Will Cannon if you would like assistance with the reservation of your registered trademark on Facebook or the selection of a Facebook username.
