OSHA Releases Information on Top 10 Grounds for Violations

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently released its list of the top 10 most frequently cited safety standards for fiscal year 2009 (October 2008 through September 2009).  This list generally points out OSHA's enforcement priorities for field inspectors:

  1. Scaffolding
  2. Fall Protection
  3. Hazard Communication
  4. Respiratory Protection
  5. Lock-out/Tag-out
  6. Electrical (wiring)
  7. Ladders
  8. Powered Industrial Trucks
  9. Other Electrical
  10. Machine Guarding

The top items illustrate OSHA's continuing focus on the construction industry.  The cumulative number of top 10 violation increased 30% over 2008, demonstrating increased enforcement activity nationwide.
