(Raleigh, N.C.)—The law firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP announced today that the Triangle Business Journal recognized Rebecca Joyner among the 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards for 2011. Each year, the weekly business newspaper honors 40 people under the age of 40 for their community and professional achievements.

“This year’s 40 Under 40 winners are the region’s up and coming thought leaders,” says Bryan Hamilton, publisher, Triangle Business Journal. “Fresh ideas, progressive initiatives and persistent hard work make up the creed of this group. Look for them to shape the Triangle’s vision of tomorrow.”

Ms. Joyner is an attorney in Parker Poe’s Raleigh office and practices in the Public Finance Group. She serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, borrower’s counsel and bank counsel in financings for cities, towns, counties, authorities, private schools, colleges and universities and other non-profit institutions across the state of North Carolina. In addition to her legal experience, Ms. Joyner has extensive experience in municipal bond financings after six years as state lead for local credits with Moody’s Investors Service.

“A large part of Rebecca’s success, in addition to being smart and a self-starter, is that she truly wants to help people and goes out of her way to do so – be it in her community, our firm or with our clients,” said Jeff Poley, a partner in Parker Poe's Raleigh office.

For the past two years, Ms. Joyner has received recognition as a “Rising Star” in North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine in Bonds/Government Finance, and was notably the only “Rising Star” in that category in 2011. Since 2007, Ms. Joyner has served on the Steering Committee for NC Women in Public Finance, a professional organization she helped establish. She is also a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

Outside of her legal career, Ms. Joyner serves on the Advisory Council of the Achievement Academy of Durham (AAD), a year-round daily school that teaches and supports young adults who have dropped out of school in order to reconnect them to the opportunities an education provides. She was a member of the AAD Board of Directors, serving as Chairman and Vice-Chairman from 2007-2010. Ms. Joyner has also served on the Advisory Board of the UNC-Chapel Hill APPLES Service-Learning Program, a student-led program that builds sustainable, service-learning partnerships among students, faculty and communities in North Carolina and beyond.

Ms. Joyner is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BA, with honors, 1996), Columbia University (MPA, 1998) and Fordham University (JD, magna cum laude, 2004).
