(RALEIGH, N.C.)—Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP has been named a recipient of the 2012 Medal of Arts, the City’s highest arts honor, by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission. The award is given for demonstrating lifetime extraordinary achievement in support of local arts.

Parker Poe was chosen for the integral role it has played in the local arts community, not only through financial contributions, but more importantly through sustained action and service.

The Medal of Arts was first given in Raleigh in 1984 to recognize and honor excellence in the arts. Over the past 25 years, 132 medals have been awarded to organizations and individuals in the Triangle.

For decades, Parker Poe and its lawyers have been intentional and committed in providing support and service to numerous arts-based organizations including Arts North Carolina, Artspace, the Burning Coal Theater, Carolina Ballet, Marbles Kids Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina Symphony, the Opera Company of North Carolina and CAM Raleigh, among others.

Many of Parker Poe’s lawyers have held leadership positions within these organizations.

“As a longtime supporter of the arts in Raleigh and specifically Artspace, we know firsthand of Parker Poe’s dedication to strengthening organizations like ours not only through financial contributions, but in some ways more importantly, through their leadership,” said Mary Poole, executive director of Artspace. “The Firm and its attorneys continue to invest their energy, expertise, business acumen and community contacts in helping us grow and stay vital in an ever-expanding arts city.”

In addition to Parker Poe, this year’s winners include Nancy Lambert, executive director of the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild, Laura Raynor, a founding member of the Carolina Ballet and the Philharmonic Association, Inc.

The Medal of Arts ceremony will be held on October 3rd in the Fletcher Opera Theater at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Tony Award-winning Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
