(RALEIGH, N.C.)Catharine Biggs Arrowood, a Partner in the Raleigh office of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, has been appointed chair of the 2012-2013 North Carolina State Committee for the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL or “the College”), the premier professional trial organization in America.

ACTL helps to maintain and improve “the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the profession,” according to the organization’s website. Membership is comprised of the top trial lawyers in the United States and Canada, and is by invitation only.

A separate committee in each state identifies suitable candidates for the College and acts as its liaison with judges, lawyers, court administrators, law schools, the trial bar and the public. The state committee also is responsible for implementing the College’s educational and outreach activities, such as training public interest lawyers in use of trial skills; teaching the Codes of Conduct to judges, lawyers and law students; and sponsoring moot court competitions.

Ms. Arrowood is the first Parker Poe attorney and the first woman to serve as North Carolina state committee chair. She previously chaired the College’s International Committee for two years. Ms. Arrowood has practiced law for more than three decades. She focuses on Antitrust and Business Torts and is also a leader of the International Arbitration Team in the firm’s Litigation Department.

In addition to Ms. Arrowood, three other Parker Poe attorneys are Fellows of the College: Robert W. Spearman in the Raleigh office and Harvey L. Cosper, Jr. and Richard S. Glaser, Jr. in the Charlotte office.
