(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP has implemented a new corporate position dedicated to identifying best practices for knowledge management. Dwight Floyd, who was a Partner in the firm’s Columbia office for the past four years, has been appointed to this new position and will work with attorneys and staff in all five Parker Poe locations.

“With the creation of our new Director of Knowledge Management position, our firm has further demonstrated its commitment to maximizing value for clients,” said Steve Fletcher, Parker Poe’s Chief Information Officer.

Mr. Floyd’s first task as the new Director of Knowledge Management is to meet with the firm’s practice groups and help establish efficient, effective and organized processes for maintaining and leveraging the collective knowledge of the firm. This may include legal documents and forms unique to certain practice areas and clients as well as the varied and extensive experience of attorneys within the firm. This area of knowledge management can provide a fast, efficient, and economical way to access contacts, content, and experience available within the firm, which is increasingly important in today’s age of information overload.

Some key initiatives that will be overseen by the new Director of Knowledge Management include, but are not limited to: integrating the firm’s knowledge with its business processes (matter intake, legal project management, fee arrangements and business development initiatives); client collaboration, surveying and information sharing; and refreshing and enhancing the firm’s document and information portal and search functionality.

“This position was derived from Parker Poe’s strategic plan as we saw a definite need to streamline our processes in order to increase productivity and efficiencies,” continued Fletcher. “By naming an existing partner to this new position, it enables us to get results much faster than with someone not familiar with our firm’s practices, client needs and work product requirements.”

Mr. Floyd has chaired Parker Poe’s Litigation Technology Committee and was a member of the group for several years. He has practiced primarily in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on science and technology issues. Mr. Floyd is a graduate of the Trial Advocacy Institute at the National Trial Advocacy College. Prior to joining Parker Poe in 2004, he practiced law in Atlanta.

Mr. Floyd earned his BS from Clemson University, his MS from Colorado State University and his JD from the University of Virginia. While at the University of Virginia School of Law, he was a member of the managing board of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology.
