Last week, the payroll processing company Employee-Services.Net, Inc. (ESN) and its affiliate eePayroll were sued in federal district court in Charlotte. The plaintiff is an ESN client that contends that the defendant failed to remit to the government payroll taxes withheld from employee wages processed by the company. ESN is based in Cornelius, and serves as the payroll processor for a number of Charlotte-area companies. The IRS and state departments of revenue have begun contacting many of these clients, informing them that they did not receive tax remittances for those companies’ employees.
