Charlotte, NC – Sarah Hutchins, Partner in Parker Poe’s Charlotte office, recently co-authored the article “Leading Practices and Issues for Mobile Devices: a Lawyer’s Guide for Advising Clients, and for Following Their Own Advice,” for a special issue of TerraLex Connections, a newsletter for the international law firm referral company TerraLex. Ms. Hutchins wrote the article with Nirav Parikh of Deloitte Advisory.
The article discusses the use of mobile devices in the workplace, including cell phones, tablets, and other devices, which have generated significant risks for employers, both in terms of data security and in litigation strategy. Even greater risks present themselves when determining whether a company provides these devices or requires its employees to bring their own. The impact of these devices on organizations is recognized in the increasing difficulties faced in the event of litigation. Knowledge of the problem and potential solutions is imperative for any lawyer when addressing their clients’ needs and while guiding their clients through the litigation process. Law firms must address these risks within their own organizations through defensible best practices that can help to mitigate these hazards.
