Charleston, SC – The College of Charleston recently hosted its first German-American Business Summit that featured Parker Poe partner Sam Moses as the keynote speaker. More than 150 businesses were in attendance, many of which were German-based companies such as Mercedes-Benz Vans, BMW, Zeltwanger, Hubner and others.

Mr. Moses’ presentation focused on “Building Bridges between Higher Education and German Industry in South Carolina,” a topic he has had extensive experience with in his legal practice. He regularly advises foreign clients, many of which are based in Germany, on a variety of business transactions and expansion projects in the United States. Mr. Moses stated the following in his address, “I am enthusiastically optimistic about the German-American transatlantic relationship today and the opportunities for our German industry partners and our young graduates from universities in our state.”

In addition to Mr. Moses’ keynote, the Summit also featured a job expo for College of Charleston students, as well as a panel discussion on workforce needs. The panel included representatives from the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S., an organization with which Mr. Moses and other Parker Poe attorneys often collaborate.

Elizabeth Gibbes, head of Parker Poe’s International Industry team, and Claire Hall, an attorney in the firm’s Columbia office, also attended the summit, both of whom also work with German industries in the United States. Parker Poe’s growing international business practice is a leader in the Carolinas, providing international clients with highly regarded and effective legal counsel in the ever-changing global market.
