Charlotte, NC – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that Raleigh partner Jason Herndon has been elected chair of the board of directors for the Lupus Foundation of America’s North Carolina chapter (LFANC). It is the only statewide organization focused on the chronic autoimmune disease in North Carolina.

Jason has been involved with LFANC for more than seven years. He served on its board of directors for the past four years, chairing its governance committee each year and becoming vice chair of the board two years ago. LFANC and its parent organization work to reach the disease-specific goals of reducing the time lupus takes to diagnose, ensuring that people with the disease have safe and effective treatments, and expanding direct services as well as access to treatment and care.

“My twin sister, Susan, was diagnosed with lupus 14 years ago,” Jason says. “The LFANC has been a great supporter of Susan, and I wanted to give my time and resources as a way of saying ‘thank you.’ I am honored to now serve as board chair and help ensure that lupus receives the funding and research attention it deserves in our state.”

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body, including skin, joints and organs. It has no known cause or cure and primarily strikes women between the ages of 15 and 44. It is estimated that at least 1.5 million Americans have lupus, with more than 16,000 new cases reported annually.

Jason is also on the board of directors for the Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh. At Parker Poe, he concentrates his practice primarily in construction law, with a broad range of clients that include design professionals, public utilities, municipalities, and regional and national contractors.
