Columbia, S.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that Columbia partner Ray Jones has been selected as an honoree for the 2018 Leaders in the Law awards hosted by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly. The publication describes honorees as “the most influential individuals within our state’s legal community.” Ray was selected for his professional accomplishments and community impact in South Carolina.

Ray has deep experience working on bond transactions and economic development transactions across the Southeast. He provides advice and counsel to a broad spectrum of clients in matters relating to public finance, local taxation, financing of affordable housing, and economic development. His clients include special purpose districts, counties, school districts, cities, investment banks, financial institutions, hospitals, and large to midsize corporations.

Ray recently concluded a term serving on Parker Poe’s board of directors. He has also played a leading role in building the firm’s public finance team in South Carolina, as well as mentoring attorneys and staff in Columbia and across Parker Poe’s footprint.

Outside of practicing law, Ray chairs the board of directors for the Saluda Shoals Foundation, a nonprofit that provides financial support and advocacy for the preservation and sustainability of Saluda Shoals Park, a 400-acre riverfront park in Columbia. Ray has served on the Saluda Shoals Foundation’s board since 2013. He has also served on the board of directors for the South Carolina chapter of the March of Dimes and the South Carolina Economic Developers' Association.

Ray is the sixth Parker Poe attorney selected as a Leaders in the Law honoree and the first in South Carolina. The other attorneys are:

  • Henry Campen in 2016
  • Brian Cromwell in 2016
  • Sarah Hutchins in 2015
  • Wanda Townsend in 2014 (with previous law firm)
  • Melanie Dubis in 2011

South Carolina Lawyers Weekly assembles a panel of independent legal professionals to serve as judges for the Leaders in the Law awards. The honoree with the highest overall score from the judges will be recognized as Lawyer of the Year at the 10th annual awards banquet on Friday, March 23 in Charleston.
