Amy Allen Hinson wrote a guest column in the Upstate Business Journal about how businesses can maximize the value of their patent portfolio.
"Simply having a patent — or even a war chest of them — does not necessarily add value to your bottom line," Amy wrote. "Businesses should decide which inventions or technology are most important to protect and strategize with their patent counsel to prioritize filings and allocate spending accordingly. After all, you hired patent counsel — not patent scribes — for a reason."
Amy explained the importance of a true partnership between innovative companies and their outside patent counsel. She also detailed how fixed fees can get in the way of that partnership and incentivize attorneys to do the bare minimum.
