George Pretty was quoted in a Law360 article on the debate over tax incentives after Amazon's cancellation of a second headquarters in Queens.
“Many states will want to retain control of their destiny," George said in explaining that Southeastern states in particular have attracted large manufacturers and reshaped their economies with the help of tax incentives. He added that a nationwide agreement to end tax incentives for business relocations is unlikely.
“It’s like nuclear proliferation,” he said. “It would only work well if everyone adopts it.”
