Tyler Smith wrote a guest column in the Charlotte Business Journal on the intersection of abandoned mills, tax credits, and the new Opportunity Zone program.
"The federal Opportunity Zone program gives local governments and developers an excellent reason to look at abandoned textile or furniture mills as key targets for redevelopment," he wrote. "Done well, these projects give a local government an opportunity to control the site, partner with developers who receive significant financial benefits, and guide economic development towards the goals of the community."
