Best Lawyers Names Seven Parker Poe Attorneys "Lawyer of the Year" for 2021

Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that seven of its attorneys were named “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America®, whose rankings are among the highest standard in the legal industry. The “Lawyer of the Year” recognition goes to the attorney with the best overall feedback from his or her peers for a specific practice area and geographic region.

Charleston, South Carolina

Tom Hildebrand was voted by his peers as the “Lawyer of the Year” for construction law. This is the second time in the past three years Tom’s peers have named him the top attorney in a practice area related to construction. He has more than 30 years of experience handling construction litigation, including defending developers against class action lawsuits.

Charlotte, North Carolina

Chip Holmes was named "Lawyer of the Year" for health care litigation. It is the seventh straight year Chip has been voted the top attorney in a practice area related to litigation or insurance. He has more than 20 years of experience defending businesses and professionals in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation.

Skip Smart was named “Lawyer of the Year” for corporate law. Skip leads the firm’s Business Law Department and provides transactional advice and corporate counseling to both private and public companies. He has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, equipment rentals, telecommunications, energy, banking, and IT services.

Greenville, South Carolina

Tim St. Clair was named “Lawyer of the Year” for patent law. It is the second straight year his peers have named him the top attorney in a practice area related to intellectual property. Tim leads Parker Poe's Intellectual Property Group and is a registered patent attorney who focuses exclusively on the protection, commercialization, and litigation of intellectual property.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Catharine Arrowood was named “Lawyer of the Year” in antitrust law. This is the eighth time in the past nine years that her peers have named her the top lawyer in a practice area related to antitrust issues or arbitration. Catharine arbitrates and litigates for large and small businesses and has considerable experience with regulated companies.

Melanie Dubis was named “Lawyer of the Year” for antitrust litigation. Melanie leads the firm’s Business Litigation Group. She handles complex business disputes at the trial and appellate level for corporate and individual clients in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, insurance, financial services, energy, and technology industries.

Charles Meeker was named “Lawyer of the Year” for municipal litigation for the second time in three years. Charles represents local governments and other clients in federal and state trials and appeals, including tax cases. He is a former five-term mayor of Raleigh who has also served on the Raleigh City Council.
