Shalanna Pirtle was quoted in a Lattice blog about how employers can incorporate holidays celebrating diversity and inclusion.
“The company’s leaders have to step up,” said Shalanna, an employment partner who chairs Parker Poe's Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “It has to be top-down leadership, and they have to be willing to engage in these conversations.”
The blog noted that Parker Poe's strategy includes sending monthly cultural awareness alerts that highlight diversity holidays, how employees celebrate them, and holiday events in locations where the firm operates. The blog also discussed Parker Poe's annual Community Service Day, where employees volunteer with nonprofits that serve diverse populations across the Southeast.
