Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has selected Charlotte counsel Daniel Peterson as an honoree for the 2020 Leaders in the Law awards. The publication describes honorees as “the most influential individuals within our state’s legal community.”
Daniel chairs the Government Practice Group of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. As chair, he plays a leading role monitoring developments in government law, seeking ways to improve its practice, and providing continuing education and networking opportunities for attorneys across the state who represent local and state government entities.
In his own legal practice, Daniel helps local governments achieve their public policy objectives. He has experience analyzing potential constitutional issues, tailoring policy recommendations, and resolving disputes for cities and towns. Prior to joining Parker Poe, he served as an assistant city attorney in the Charlotte City Attorney's Office.
Additionally, Daniel defends professionals and businesses against claims of negligence, wrongful death, and personal and property damage. He advises insurance companies on policy coverage determinations and defends them in litigation as well.
Daniel also serves on the Invocation Committee of the Rotary Club of Charlotte and maintains an active pro bono practice. He is a former chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar’s Litigation Section and a graduate of the Mecklenburg County Bar Leadership Institute.
Daniel is the seventh Parker Poe attorney selected as a Leader in the Law in North Carolina or South Carolina. The other attorneys are:
- Ray Jones in 2018
- Henry Campen in 2016
- Brian Cromwell in 2016
- Sarah Hutchins in 2015
- Wanda Townsend in 2014 (with previous law firm)
- Melanie Dubis in 2011
North Carolina Lawyers Weekly assembles a panel of independent legal professionals to serve as judges for the Leaders in the Law awards. The honoree with the highest overall score from the judges will be recognized as Lawyer of the Year at a virtual banquet on November 30.
