Bruce Thompson was quoted in North Carolina Lawyers Weekly on litigation tied to the 2020 election. Bruce represented state Chief Justice Cheri Beasley's campaign in election law matters this year, and he has been deeply involved in a variety of federal and state election campaigns over his career.
Bruce was among a chorus of election law attorneys who said that although there were more disputes than usual this year, voters should have the utmost confidence in how their ballots are counted.
"What I would tell people is that in all the years I have dealt with elections law on the state and federal law, the people who administer the elections take their jobs seriously," Bruce said. "Even in normal times, they have an incredibly difficult job just managing the logistics and dealing with the emotions that go into dealing with the accusations that get tossed at them. There really was a sense of, let’s take a look at this and make sure we got it right. It made me feel good about the people who do this. The bottom line for them is that they’re trying to get it right."
