In a recent article published by the Triangle Business Journal, Patti Bartis discusses the potential friction and liabilities for Triangle companies when the city drops its indoor mask mandate.
“When the mask mandate drops, all the employers in the city are going to decide, do we keep it or do we drop it,” said Patti. “And you’re never going to please everybody.”
She further explains that regulations put in place by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) require companies to provide a safe workplace to all employees, “it’s very possible that if employers drop mask mandates, they may get complaints from employees … and employees could call OSHA,” said Patti.
Patti recommends employers think specifically about their own workplaces and what each of their employees need. Is it an office that’s spread out where distancing is easy, or is it a manufacturing line where workers are standing next to each other for hours on end? She also encourages concerned employees to speak with their bosses about remote work possibilities and safety precautions.
