Bruce Thompson was quoted in the Triangle Business Journal in an article about the growing electric vehicle industry, including major investments for battery plants.
North Carolina is landing a number of projects in the growing battery market, and will likely continue to do so, Thompson told the publication. One way the state is succeeding is through strong incentives. It is also winning projects because of its workforce and quality of life.
"The entire Southeast has had a real boom with the EV battery space," Thompson said.
Toyota's building of a plant in North Carolina is viewed as a major win due to an envisioned $14 billion facility that will create more than 5,000 jobs.
The company put North Carolina on the map for electric vehicle batteries, Thompson said.
"I think that's going to continue to pay off for us just because there's such a critical mass, having the anchor, that Toyota plant in North Carolina, it's really drawn a lot of attention from companies that want to be close to them," Thompson said.
