Brandon Moulard and Bennett Bryan presented on the impact of federal litigation on school districts during the Council of School Attorneys (COSA) Spring Law Seminar in Atlanta.
Brandon and Bennett covered the evolving nature of federal litigation against school districts, influenced by recent Supreme Court rulings that reshape liability, remedies, and defense strategies. They provided school districts with insights about key cases that limit the scope of damages under Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and a case that impacted judicial deference to federal agencies.
Brandon and Bennett also addressed strategies for leveraging qualified immunity to protect school officials as well as other practical guidance for school attorneys defending districts in an increasingly complex legal environment.
This year’s seminar also included Parker Poe attorneys presenting on First Amendment considerations for school boards, safeguarding student data, navigating the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and Title IX compliance.
COSA’s seminar brought together school attorneys from across the country for presentations and legal education on current law and litigation affecting public schools. COSA is part of the National School Boards Association.
