Sam Moses moderated a panel about global economic development strategies during the South Carolina Developers' Association (SCEDA) Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach.
Sam led a conversation about international investment in the state and opportunities to build on South Carolina’s past success overseas in the current market. The panel was comprised of representatives from South Carolina’s foreign offices around the world who are seeking to bring foreign direct investment (FDI) to the state and open up new markets for South Carolina companies, including Jon Baggett, deputy director of global business development with the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
Various topics were discussed including how the markets for South Carolina’s foreign offices were considered, what FDI attraction strategies are being used by the state’s overseas representatives, the importance of FDI as a hallmark of the growth of some of the state’s key industries such as automotive and aerospace, and the impacts of tariffs and other global and national challenges impacting FDI. They also discussed ways that South Carolina can continue to be a national leader in partnering with international companies and other successful growth regions overseas to build a robust, sustainable economy.
Since 1965, SCEDA has served as South Carolina's voice for economic development. The nonprofit has over 600 members that include local and regional economic developers, local and state government officials, and professionals from law firms, consulting firms, construction and engineering firms, financial institutions, and higher education. The annual conference brings its members together to discuss industry changes and opportunities.
