Lake Murray, with its 50,000 acres of water, provides outdoor recreation to residents and visitors just northwest of the city.
Other points of interest include the South Carolina State Museum, the Columbia Museum of Art and the Congaree National Park, which features 25 miles of hiking trails, including the last significant tract of old-growth hardwood forest in the United States.
