Merritt Francis concentrates his practice on tax finance and litigation. He has experience drafting and reviewing tax provisions for syndicated lending and repurchase agreements, as well as structured finance products such as collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), collateralized fund obligations (CFOs), structured notes, real estate mortgage investment conduits (REMICs), and real estate investment trusts (REITs).
Merritt has also advised on the tax elements of corporate restructurings and other transactions. Additionally, he has litigated state and local tax issues for multinational corporations.
Prior to joining Parker Poe, Merritt was a tax associate for one of the 30 largest U.S. law firms. He received his master's degree in taxation law from NYU, his law degree from the University of Richmond, and his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina.
