Kim Betz partners with clients to guide strategic growth through acquisitions, compliance, and risk management. She has two decades of experience as in-house counsel for multibillion-dollar global businesses, where she advised executives on mergers and acquisitions, compliance, contracts, litigation, and intellectual property. She has particular experience in the manufacturing and industrial sectors. 

Clients rely on Kim's guidance and legal judgment to navigate complex deals and operational challenges. She has led legal strategy for cross-border transactions and directed acquisitions that ultimately led to $500 million in revenue. She has also designed compliance and contract frameworks that reduced risk while improving profitability.

Kim spent nearly 15 years in-house at Ingersoll Rand, ultimately serving as vice president and assistant general counsel. In that role, she guided leadership teams on acquisitions, contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and litigation, with a focus on business units overseeing more than $1 billion in global revenue. Before that, she was chief counsel for global operations for INVISTA. She started her legal career as an attorney at Parker Poe. 

Kim earned her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her undergraduate's degree from Wake Forest University. 

Representative Experience

  • Led more than 20 cross-border acquisitions over five years for global manufacturing business units, directing due diligence, contract negotiation, and integration to drive over $500 million in added revenue.
  • Developed global intellectual property strategy to consolidate portfolios and standardize decision-making, cutting costs by 30%.
  • Partnered with global sales to revamp channel contracting process, introducing flexible templates, e-signatures, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance to decrease cycle times 30%.
  • Advised executives and boards on complex commercial, product safety, and compliance issues, including anti-corruption and environmental issues.
  • Created global contract authority and risk escalation programs that reduced dispute frequency and accelerated deal execution.
  • Directed legal operations for 30 manufacturing facilities across 11 countries, leading contract management teams and delivering multimillion-dollar savings through process improvement and standardization.
  • Designed a contract authority matrix to improve risk escalation and review, reducing contract-related disputes.
  • Partnered with global compliance and HR on compliance investigations, including company code of conduct violations.
  • Oversaw external litigation legal counsel, developing a company-wide strategy to set appropriate financial reserves.
  • Developed and implemented an online authorized reseller policy and minimum advertised pricing policy, strengthening product quality, brand integrity, and controlling distribution channels.
  • Created product safety guidelines with product labelling standards, product safety review council, and escalation matrix.
  • Oversaw product liability litigation, including negotiating multimillion-dollar settlements.
  • Negotiated supply and development agreements supporting multimillion-dollar projects and procurement initiatives.
  • Drafted long-term supply agreements central to the $3 billion spin-off of global manufacturing company's security business.
