In the November 9  issue of  Immigration News, we informed you that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) had revised the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9).  USCIS  has  now announced that all employers must begin using the revised form no later than December 26, 2007.  Employers who fail to use the revised form after that date will be subject to penalties.

The revised Form I-9 can be identified by the revision date - (Rev. 06/05/07)N - printed on the lower right hand corner.  The "N" signifies that no other version of the form is valid for use.  Both the revised Form I-9 and the "Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9" are available online at www.uscis.gov under the heading "Immigration Forms."

All employers are required to complete a Form I-9 for each employee hired in the United States.  If you have questions or concerns about compliance with employment eligibility laws, please contact us.
