Last week, the federal Department of Labor announced its intent to eliminate its Employment Standards Administration. ESA is an intermediate organizational level in DOL that includes a number of important agencies such as the Wage and Hour Division and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. DOL characterized the move as streamlining the agency and eliminating an unnecessary level of bureaucracy. Agencies formerly under the ESA umbrella will directly report to the Secretary of Labor. Employers should see little impact from this move.
