Invenergy Statement: North Carolina Utilities Commission – Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity
Pantego Wind Energy Project
(RALEIGH, N.C.)—On March 8, 2012, the North Carolina Utilities Commission issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for Invenergy’s proposed Pantego Wind Energy project. This is an important first step and part of an extensive regulatory review that will include numerous local, state and federal agencies.
With an excellent wind resource and strong local support, the project’s location in Beaufort County, North Carolina is optimal for a successful wind farm. The 80 MW Pantego project will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 15,000 North Carolina homes.
Pantego Wind would provide substantial, long-term economic benefits to our host community. The project is expected to generate more than 100 jobs during construction; at least five permanent operations and maintenance jobs once the project is operational; and more than $1 million annually in local tax revenue, lease payments to landowners, and staff salaries.
