Raleigh, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that the Triangle Business Journal has selected Nana Asante-Smith as a winner of the 2021 Women in Business Award. The award recognizes “Triangle women who have proven to be dynamic and outstanding leaders with established track records of significant accomplishments in business and/or community service,” according to the business journal.

Nana was recognized in large part because of her efforts to make the Triangle a more equitable community. In the past year, she provided pro bono representation to peaceful protesters charged with crimes in the aftermath of George Floyd’s killing. She participated in the roll out of Action NC’s statewide Black Maternal Health campaign. She also became chair of the Durham Mayor’s Council for Women and prioritized the economic empowerment of women of color.

In addition, Nana continued serving as president of the N.C. Association of Black Lawyers last year, a role she has held since 2017. She spearheaded initiatives to help Black attorneys across the state connect, grow with each other, and support each other through the pandemic. Nana also played a leading role in community organization efforts alongside the residents of McDougald Terrace in Durham during its carbon monoxide crisis last year. She facilitated legal workshops, managed volunteers, and assisted with food distribution efforts for residents.

Nana continued to build her business litigation practice at Parker Poe as well. She focuses on complex civil litigation, including breaches of contracts, unfair trade practices, and securities cases, as well as government and internal investigations.

Nana and her fellow award winners will be recognized during a ceremony in May. The Triangle Business Journal will profile her in a special section published on May 14.
